Principal's Message
The 2006-2007 school year was another productive year
at Morgan Elementary. Morgan students did very well this past year
on state achievement tests! The students were well above the state
standard of 75% in all of the tests taken, and once again, Morgan
is rated by the state of Ohio as an “Excellent” school.
Congratulations on a job well done!
The staff has expectations for Morgan students to perform above the state criteria
on achievement scores, and continues to focus on setting high expectations for
student achievement, and strives to meet the needs of all of the students. This
is evident as the teachers deliver a balanced literacy program, advocate critical
thinking, integrate technology into the instructional process, and provide differentiated
instruction.
Morgan continues to improve and expand academic and intervention programs. All
students at each grade level are assessed through state and classroom assessments
and are placed in specifically designed intervention programs based on needs
in the areas of reading and math. These programs take place during the school
day and after school. While most schools intervene with at-risk students only,
the staff at Morgan prepares lessons that also focus on extending and challenging
high ability students.
We emphasize the importance of and the use of technology at Morgan Elementary.
Each classroom has five newer computers and a laser printer, access to two computer
labs, one mobile lab, scanners and digital cameras, smart boards, and updated
software programs. This allows teachers and students to access and utilize state-of-the-art
technology. All students receive technology instruction through the media center,
and with the adoption of a new technology course of study; the teachers look
forward to expanding the use of technology in the classroom.
Reading is a priority at Morgan Elementary. With the addition of a new book room
with hundreds of leveled books, guided reading takes place in all with all students.
We are also impressed with the number of books that the students are reading
at Morgan Elementary. Students continue to read books and enjoy them! It is not
unusual to have a student reading two or more books a week. We are also very
proud of the number of students that visit our media center during the summer
months to check out books.
Once again, the year’s successes can also be measured by the high involvement
of parents. We especially need to recognize and congratulate the Morgan PTO for
another exemplary year. The PTO continues to be a crucial part of the operation
at Morgan. They organize numerous activities such as: Fall Carnival, Market Day,
AR Shopping, Red Ribbon Week, staff luncheons, and many other volunteer projects.
They also raise money to help fund various endeavors such as: AR program, new
technology, buying books, and providing instructional materials and classroom
supplies for the staff and students.
