Community Engagement Town Hall Recap

On Wednesday, May 30, 2018, we hosted our very first in person Town Hall at the High School to discuss the status of our school district and how we envision what the future looks like for our students. We were joined by parents, teachers, and residents of Ross Local School District who asked great questions to which I hope we provided clear answers. If you were unable to attend last night, I wanted to provide you with some of the key questions that were asked, along with our answers to those questions.

What exactly is the 1:1 initiative?

The 1:1 initiative allows students to access instructional content and submit assignments through a Chromebook (laptop) device.  In grades 5 through 12, students take their Chromebook home with them. In kindergarten through 4th grade, students have access to Chromebooks in their classroom.

What kind of transportation options will we have next school year?

Currently, transportation will remain the same for the beginning of the year.  If additional funds are available we would look at bringing back regular bus routing for students in grades 9-12 as well as terminating double routes at Elda and RMS.

Are the initiatives that Ross Schools want to implement going to happen in the short term or in the long term?

There are initiatives that can be implemented in the short term and others in the near future.  We would need to factor theses initiatives into the timeline of our new strategic plan which we will be unveiling this summer.

How are the students who want to participate in internship opportunities provided by the school going to find time to do that and also be successful in class?

The block schedule at RHS affords the students and opportunity to complete required classes at a quicker pace.  Students who are Juniors and Seniors will have opportunities to engage in these internships if their schedule is open based on their progress with the graduation requirements.

There have been rumors about tearing down the Administration building. Will this happen, and if so, when?

At this time, this is rumor.  We are investigating the options of a public/private partnership with a medical group and possibly the YMCA. Within this investigation, we are discussing facility options.

What’s the plan for improving gifted services for our students?

We are currently in the process of developing a multi-year plan which will: build upon current gifted services; identify areas of need and refinement in gifted services, and determine materials, resources, and professional development necessary to implement the District plan for those services..

For those that were unable to attend but wanted to participate there are still a number of opportunities to do so. We live streamed the town hall Wednesday night, which you can watch on demand at the following link: http://www.rossrams.com/. Additionally, you can still listen to our first telephone town hall which we hosted a few weeks ago by clicking here: http://www.rossrams.com/content/communityengagement.

Finally, we will be hosting two more in person town halls in the month of June. The second one will take place on June 13th at 7pm and the third will be on June 27th at 7pm. Both will once again be held at the high school. We encourage you to come out so you can make your voice heard and so that we can learn what you want to see from Ross Local School District!
