Important Announcement from Ross Local Schools

At the January 7, 2019 Board of Education meeting the Ross Board  passed a final resolution to place a 0.5% earned income tax levy on the ballot in May. This is the same amount as the levy which failed in November 2018. There will be additional information presented to the community beginning in February. We want to make sure our message is clear since there will be only one issue on the May ballot. The Board made the decision for the May levy based on the positive momentum from the previous levy effort. Additionally, if the levy doesn't pass in May, the district will have time to make budgetary adjustments for the 2019-2020 school year.

 

Levy funding would be used to:

 

  • Maintain  and further develop our current programming and ensure that operating expenses are covered;

  • Establish a curriculum that ensures deeper learning outcomes connected to real-world applications, builds a twenty-first-century skill set, and maximizes student learning opportunities;

  • Evaluate and reduce class sizes in grade levels impacted by high enrollment numbers;

  • Develop student internships through partnerships with business and industry;

  • Ensure equity in access to high-quality electronic/technology devices for student, teacher, and classroom use;

  • Develop a sustainable model for technical assistance that maximizes teaching and learning opportunities districtwide;

  • Implement a formal cycle to review and replace hardware to focus on both short- and long-term sustainability;

  • Increase opportunities for gifted education, special education, and intervention services including staffing, professional development, materials, and resources;

  • Implement safety improvements to facilities and add Student Resource Officers in schools;

  • Identify services to support the social and emotional well-being of students, including additional in-district counselor support, social worker support, and partnerships with crisis support agencies for mental health therapists;

  • Design research-based, collaborative learning spaces that promote and support student voice, choice, and agency;

  • Establish full-route bussing pickup and drop-off stops for 9th-12th grade students and eliminate double routing at Elda Elementary and Ross Middle School.

 

The school board and district administration are currently analyzing budget reduction options which will be communicated in the future.  

 

An earned income impacts working taxpayers who pay taxes on their working income. Income that will not be affected by the  school district income tax are retirement income, interest, dividends, capital gains, profit from rental activities, distributive shares of profit from S corporations, lottery winnings and any other income which is not earned income.
