April 2008 Scholarship Update

The Scholarship Update lists the latest scholarship information received by Student Services. Each month the Update will be included in the newsletter mailed to all parents. An advanced copy of the update will be posted in the Student Services Office on the 16th of each month. Unless otherwise noted, a student must be a senior to apply, but wise juniors will become familiar now with potential scholarships. If you have any questions or would like an application, feel free to talk with Ms. Schur in Student Services (868-4503).

TONY HINSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP -awarded through the Ross Athletic Boosters. If you are a multiple sport athlete, only one application will be considered. To qualify you must be a Ross HS or Butler Tech Senior who has attended Ross all four years of high school. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required and your parents or guardians must be paid booster members by October 1st and work at least one night in the concession stand and attend 2 booster meetings. The total amount awarded among all of the scholarships is $3000.00. The amount each recipient is awarded will be decided in May.

Nov.1st(Fall), Mar.1st(Winter), May1st(Spring)
VIETNAM VETERANS SCHOLARSHIPS -awards are available to veterans and their family members/dependents. All applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.0. Eligible candidates will be will be judged on their community involvement, financial need, character and academic achievement.

CINCINNATI SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION -these awards are primarily need-based. Applicants for these scholarships must complete the application in its entirety, request to have a transcript sent along with the application, submit the EFC from your Aid Award Letter from the school they choose to attend. In order for applications to arrive before the deadline, they must be submitted to Ms. Schur by the deadline below.

CATHERINE GLASER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP -awarded to two deserving seniors, planning to attend a post-secondary institution, who demonstrate academic success, participation in school activities and community activities, leadership, volunteer experience and financial need. Applicants should also have overcome a significant obstacle.

May 2, 2008  
AMITY GRAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP -two $500 scholarships will be awarded to RHS Senior Athletes who are planning to attend a two or four college. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required and applicants must have participated in an RHS sport for four years. Financial need will also be considered.

MCCULLOUGH HYDE MEMORIAL AUXILIARY NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS -one award is available to a student who applies by May 28th, has three letters of reference, submits a 500 word personal essay/statement of financial need, goals, personal qualities and/or experience, and level of possibility to work part-time at McCullough-Hyde hospital (no obligation).

MARVIN LEWIS COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND -twelve scholarships for four years in the amount of $20,000 each will be awarded to qualified applicants. Interested students should be a senior athlete who earned a varsity letter in their respective sport. Applicants should have a minimum 2.75 GPA, show financial need and be able to demonstrate a proven commitment to the community. If your are interested in applying, please go to:

INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP -several partial tuition scholarships are available for both the cosmetology and esthetics programs. Applicants should write an essay and attach a letter of reference from a teacher or employer.

FORT HAMILTON HOSPITAL HEALTH CAREERS SCHOLARSHIP -any student who receives this scholarship should want to work for Fort Hamilton Hospital upon completion of education. A tuition benefit agreement will need to be signed by all parties to receive the scholarship. Applicants will need to submit a completed application, three letters of recommendation, a transcript and a letter of acceptance from the college of your choice. The school must offer a health care program(s) or the coursework that leads to a career in a health care field. A GPA or at least 2.5 is also required.

April 10,2008  
JOE NUXHALL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP -one boy and one girl will each receive a scholarship worth $1,000 to put towards their education. Qualified applicants will exhibit exceptional skills in the classroom, have financial need, be a participant in at least one sport on the varsity level, be involved in extra curricular activities, be able to show evidence of community service, and be a leader in their school/community.

April 16, 2008  
ROSS EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP -two scholarships worth $500 each. Recipients are selected by the REA selection committee.

ROSS HS FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP -a $1000 scholarship to be awarded to a Ross Senior who has demonstrated participation & accomplishment in the Fine Arts (creative writing, drama, instrumental & vocal music, visual art). Winner is chosen by an RHS committee.

MITCHELL PEACOCK MEMORIAL -a $1000 scholarship awarded to a Ross Senior who has been on the football team and has the qualities of most improved and hardest working.

ROSS LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP -a scholarship worth $1,500. Applicants must be seniors who have attended Ross or DRL for the last 4 years; be accepted/enrolled at any education institution beyond the high school level; have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and not be receiving any other major scholarships of $500 or more. The student's desire to further their education and financial need will be major considerations as well as academic achievement.

JEREMY DAVID SCHLEMBACH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP -applicants must be Ross HS Seniors who have attended RHS or DRL for the past 4 years with a minimum GPA or 3.25. They must also be accepted and planning to enroll at an accredited college or university.

April 30, 2008  
ROSS COCA-COLA SCHOLARSHIP -available to seniors who have achieved both academically and in extracurriculars throughout high school. Applicants should also be involved in the community. This award is worth $1000 with three available.

May 2, 2008  
WILLIAM STRUNK SCHOLARSHIP -available to a Ross High School senior who has demonstrated a significant contribution to your graduating class, the Ross community and Ross High School. This scholarship is worth $500. Applicants must also include a list of all of their extra-curriculars, leadership positions, community involvement and work experience.

ROSS LIONESS CLUB -a $1,000 scholarship awarded to a deserving senior who has made significant contribution(s) to the senior class. Financial need will be a consideration of the committee.
