| Whats Happening at RHS Week of 3/1/10 Softball About to be in Full Swing Ramball Fast pitch Softball Clinic for 2nd-8th grades March 13th. Hosted by Ross Softball Team, Coaches, & Alumni at Ross High School. For more info or registration go to www.rossramball.com Donkey Basketball Thats right, Donkey Basketball .. On Monday March 8th, selected staff and students from RHS will be taking on staff and students from Harrison High School in a fast paced game of Donkey Basketball. Participants will ride around on live donkeys and attempt to make baskets on standard basketball rims. Where is this event taking place you might ask? Harrison High School beginning at 7:00pm. All proceeds will go to the after proms of both schools, so please come out and support the cause! Oldies Music Coming to RHS The popular music group The Avalons are coming to Ross High School on Saturday, March 13th. If you are a fan of 50s and 60s music you will want to be in attendance! The concert will begin at 7:00pm and tickets are now on sale for $10 at Ross High School. All proceeds go to the Ross High School Alumni Association, to provide scholarships for future Ross graduates. Ross Middle School
| Ross Middle School Whats Happening: After being rescheduled three times due to weather, the Ross Middle School Power of the Pen team was finally able to compete at the district tournament on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Blanchester Middle School. Power of the Pen is the schools competitive writing club, which consists of seventh and eighth grade writers. At the competition, writers are given three different prompts and are scored with a holistic rubric based on the creativity and quality of their writing. Seventh grade team members include Olivia Meinzer, Carrie Vennefron, Brittany Welch, Audrey Schlembach, Nikki Schum, and Jackie Wesselman. Eighth grader writers are Diane Hoffman, Tara Griffin, Erica Eppert, Samantha Walker, Carolyn Conrad, Emma Demopoulos, and Devon Swanson. Congratulations to Diane and Carrie who qualified to compete at the regional tournament on Saturday, March 13th at Princeton Middle School! WEEK OF 3/1/10: T 3/2 Conferences 3:00 6:30 pm. Ross Middle School recognized its January / February Regal Rams for the 2009-2010 school year. Students who received the award were nominated by teachers or other faculty members for displaying outstanding character on a regular basis. RMS is filled with students who do the right thing on a daily basis. We want to let these students know that we notice them and appreciate the example they set for others. | Elda Elementary For the Week of March 1, 2010 Building News: Wednesday: One hour delay start, Teacher inservice. Leadership meetings. Kindergarten News: Weather. Writing workshop-the craft of revision. Ending sounds. Number stories, two digit numbers. Reading comprehension. First grade News: Please send first graders to school ready to go outdoors for recess. We try to get fresh air as much as possible! In science we are learning about force and motion. Classes have created several kinds of roller coasters. We also conducted Dropping Races" and talked about GRAVITY. We are continuing to become more accurate and fast with our math facts. You can help us at home by creating flashcards and quizzing us on our facts. Everyday we work on becoming better and detailed writers. We do this by writing like authors we love, writing about ourselves, and looking at the world through Poets' eyes! Second Grade News: Energy; heat, light and sound! Focus on key questions such as where does it come from, how does it travel and what can it go through? Explorations to help explain and discover. Daily Geography continued. Daily language skills practice of proofreading, stretching sentences, identifying nouns and verbs and choosing correct verbs for sentences. Homophones, synonyms and antonyms. Math; fractions, beginning unit on measurement, continuous review of telling time, counting money and double-digit addition and subtraction. Kids earning the February behavior reward will be participating in a Shamrock Scavenger hunt (various facts and trivia to read and solve), gold rewards at the end of their rainbow! Third Grade News: Reading- continue reading various books on each groups levels and teaching various reading skills, Theme:Mystery. Writing- Continue with Book 4 Writing Ficitonal Stories, writing about a Magic Pebble, own version of 3 Little Pigs. Math- begin Chapter 8 with Fractions. Science/Social Studies- continue with Rocks and Minerals, defining the 3 groups of Rocks, discuss Rock Cycle, Soil Layers. Fourth Grade News: Miscellaneous: H1N1 health reminders; buddy reading partners with 1st or 2nd grade classes; 4th grade teacher meeting; ProOhio Math and Reading Test 4B. Tech: AR quizzes, EasyTech, Aha!Math, Pro-Ohio Reading and Math practice, laptop computers, Turning Point practice. Read 180: Students are becoming geniuses at writing summaries. Reading: Students are working in Buckle Down Reading books, performing Readers Theater plays, reading independently, taking AR quizzes, and practicing with Pro-Ohio Reading. Writing: Students are working with responses to literature. Language: Students are working irregular verbs and verb tense. Spelling: Students are learning Unit 25 words 456-460, paragraph building and sharing, and plural nouns. Math: Students are working with large numbers, word problems, playing relevant math games, as well as using Aha! Math and Pro-Ohio Math. Social Studies: Students are learning about the struggles settlers had to deal with in order to create the state of Ohio. Science: Students are learning about weathering, tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Presentation of a tornado generator by Adam Bosse's grandfather. Art: Students are working on Art Show projects that involve painting, making sculptures, and printing. Music: Students are practicing their songs and dances for the upcoming musical, Rock and Roll Forever! Students need to start looking for costumes to go with the 50's and 60's and rock and roll!! Physical Education: Students are playing indoor kickball. For the Week of March 8, 2010 Grade level meetings. Tuesday: PTO meeting at 7 PM. Thursday: Spring Pictures. Thursday: Art Fair, 5:30-7 PM. | - In Music: First and Second grade students are working on their fire safety music program. Fifth grade music students are studying African-American musicians for Black History Month. - Art: Students are working on projects to be displayed in the Fine Art Show for May 7th. 5th grade finished up wire face portraits, 4th grade created Op Art, 3rd grade finished up Positive/Negative Symmetrical Portraits, 2nd grade learned aboutenri Matisse and "drew with their scissors" and 1st grade created texture papers to be used for an Eric Carle Lesson. Please stop by the Art Blog and post your questions or comments! - 3rd Grade- Math -Multiplication, Measuring in Millimeters and Centimeters, Place Value and Geometry. Reading-Biographies, Summaries, Main Idea, Inferring Character Feelings and Preparation for the OAA. Writing-Fiction and Pen Pal Letters. Science-Forces and Motion and Simple Machines. Social Studies-Economics. - 4th grade: Who do you think should be Ohio's representative to the Statuary Hall in the Capitol Building? That's what the fourth graders have been discussing in social studies classes. Each student is researching one of the nominees. From that point each student will be writing a letter sharing their opinions on it to the committee members who will make this decision. Stayed tuned and we will let you know what Morgan fourth graders thought. In science students have been doing experiments to see how softer rocks weather differently from harder rocks. Math classes have been working on a multitude of skills from working with congruent figures, translating, rotating, and sliding them. Two digit times two digit multiplication is being practiced, as well as reviewing skills using studyisland.com and proOhio. Mrs. Withrow's Reading:Well, I don't think you really count my classes, but we have been super busy getting ready for the OAA. 4th grade reading has been working hard reviewing synonyms/anotnyms, word meanings and definitions.
