This coming week at RHS .....

May 5th through May 9th is Staff Appreciation Week! This is a great time to tell a teacher or staff member "Thanks." Ross High School is lucky to have such an outstanding group of teachers, paraprofessionals, secretaries, custodians, and cafeteria employees! All that you do is greatly appreciated!

On Monday, May 5th, the Ross High School Spanish Department will be observing the Mexican holiday "Cinco de Mayo." Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of the victory of the Mexican people over the French army in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The French sought to take over Mexico and used money loaned to Mexico as a reason to attack. Students have learned through videos and a web quest activity about the historical and cultural aspects of Cinco de Mayo and are preparing sculptures that represent Cinco de Mayo including key people involved in the events leading up to or during the battle, the battle itself, and Mexican pride that was a result of the battle. the sculptures will be judged to see which is the best representation in each category. Students are also preparing Mexican food dishes to bring in for the festival. Thank you to the RHS Spanish department -- Mrs. Dougherty, Mrs. Goins, and Mrs. Gardner -- for all of the work that they have put into making this day a great learning opportunity for students!
