Ross Local Schools to Induct 8 into the Hall of Fame

The Ross Local School District is set to induct eight new members into the Class of 2022 including the following inductees into the Athletic, Fine Arts, and Community branches of the Ross Local School District Hall of Fame.
Kara (King) Gifford: Kara Gifford was a four-year varsity starter in Softball, a three-year varsity starter in basketball, and a three-year varsity starter in soccer during her time as a Ram. Gifford earned numerous accolades in every sport she played and led her teams to league championships and deep tournament runs in softball.
Bryan Ray: Bryan Ray played football and wrestled during his career at Ross. He graduated as a school record-holder in wrestling and also won league and sectional championships and was a two-time state qualifier. After high school, Ray placed third in the NCAA Division III National Tournament with Wilmington College.
Kim (Way) Steigerwald: Kim Steigerwald was a four-sport athlete for the Rams, earning twelve varsity letters in track and field, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. She was a four-time state qualifier in track and field while competing in the shot put and discus. Steigerwald then went on to compete in track and field at Miami University.
Bob Walton: Bob Walton was a volunteer pitching coach for the Ross softball program for thirty-plus years and was a critical component of more than 600 wins. Walton was integral to the success that the Rams had during his tenure in which Ramball compiled league, district, and regional championships galore. He was also on staff for the state runner-up finish in 2005 and the state championship in 2009.
Anna (Smith) Winters: Anna Winters played volleyball, basketball, and softball during her career at Ross High School, and rewrote the softball record books for the Rams. She was twice named to the First Team All-State list and named First Team All-League all four years. She was the Southwest Ohio Pitcher of the Year for three years and went on to be a four-year pitcher at Rio Grande University.
Fine Arts Hall
Rick Canter: While at Ross High School, Rick Canter participated in four years of band, four years of wrestling, and two years of track and field. After high school, he attended Bowling Green State University where he was in the symphonic bands and the marching band. He earned the Mark Kelly award given annually to the music education major who makes a significant contribution to the BGSU music programs. Mr. Canter has presented at national music education conferences, written music education books, and now serves as the director of the Junior Cincinnati Wind Ensemble through the University of Cincinnati.
David Lessing: As a student at Ross High School, David Lessing was a standout member of the Choir and Show Choir. He recorded his first full-length album of original music at age seventeen. He then went on to record multiple solo albums after high school. Lessing has been a member of Blessid Union of Souls since 2011 as a keyboardist and backup vocalist. He has toured internationally and been involved in seven Top-40 hits, three Top-10 hits, and one #1 hit. Lessing also serves as the Praise and Worship Leader at Vessel United Church.
Georgia Leach: For thirty years, Georgia Leach has been the editor and publisher of the Venice Cornerstone, a publication that has devoted thousands of pages to positive, encouraging coverage of the Ross Local School District and the Ross community. Leach has consistently used her creative outlet to highlight the accomplishments of students, athletes, teams, staff, and administration to help celebrate the Ross Local School District as one of the best in Southwest Ohio.
The Class of 2022 will be introduced during halftime at the boy’s basketball game on February 11, 2022, and then celebrated at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on February 12, 2022, at Courtyard Marriott in Hamilton.
