Ross Intermediate School Update

July 16, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians of 4th and 5th Grade Students,

I hope this letter finds each of you well and that all of you are enjoying the summer.  We would like to share with you a construction update on the Ross Intermediate Building.  We are excited about this opportunity for our students and what it means for our community.

As a review, three compelling reasons guided us as we implemented a transition to a 4th/5th grade building:

  1. Creating a 4th/5th grade school allows students to be with like-aged peers, which will better serve their social, emotional, mental health, and educational needs;

  2. The ability to offer a tuition-based all day Kindergarten. Our district currently has over 70 students enrolled in all-day kindergarten, with two full time classes at Morgan Elementary and one full time class at Elda;

  3. Removing 5th grade from the Middle School resolves an overcrowding problem at that building.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by Friday, August 13th.  The first day for students at Ross Intermediate School (RIS) will be August 19th.  This is a change in the school calendar.  The teachers at RIS will be in staff training on August 18th. This change in the instructional calendar is for Ross Intermediate School ONLY.  All other buildings will open as previously scheduled and all other students will report for classes as previously indicated.

A Timeline of Useful Dates for ROSS INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL:

August 13th:  Construction Completed

August 17th:  Teacher Inservice

August 18th: Teacher Inservice and Open House. 5:30-6:15 p.m. Last names A-K; 6:30-7:15 p.m. Last names L-Z.

August 19th: First Day for Students at Ross Intermediate School

Please note that it is our full intention to meet the above dates.  As with any construction project, there may be additional delays.  We will communicate any changes.

We believe it is critical to be very transparent and clear in our communication.  Should you have any questions about this construction process, please feel free to reach out. We are here to serve you.

Thank you for your continued support of the Ross Local School District.
