Welcoming a new year of Learning, Connection and Community at Ross Local Schools

August 15, 2025

Welcome Back!

To our Ross Local School District families -- both new and returning -- welcome to the 2025-2026 school year!

Whether this is your child's first year in our district or you've been part of the Ross community for many years, we're grateful you've chosen Ross Local Schools as your partner in education. At RLSD, we are proud to serve not just your student, but your entire family -- because above all else, we are for families. We are committed to your child's success, and equally committed to building a strong, connected school community where every family feels seen, supported, and valued.

As we begin this new year, I want to commend our incredible staff for the hard work they've put in throughout the summer to prepare classrooms, plan instruction, and ensure every detail is in place to welcome students back. Their dedication and professionalism are just a few of the many reasons why Ross is such a special place to learn and grow.

This newsletter -- fRAMily Focus -- is one of the ways we aim to keep you informed and engaged throughout the school year. Each issue includes updates, reminders, and celebrations from across the district. We hope it helps you feel more connected to all that's happening in and around our schools.

Here's to a great start to the year and a fantastic journey ahead. We're glad you're here -- and we're proud to serve your family.

Warmly,
Dr. Bill Rice
Superintendent
Ross Local School District

ParentSquare: Your One-Stop Hub for School Communication

At Ross Local Schools, our goal is simple: when families need information, we want them to get it straight from the source. That’s why we’ve adopted ParentSquare as our official communication tool for all enrolled families. While our website remains a valuable resource for the broader community—including prospective families and staff—ParentSquare is where day-to-day communication happens for those already part of the district. From classroom updates to school news and district-wide announcements, everything is now housed in one secure, easy-to-use platform.

One of the best features of ParentSquare is that you get to choose how and when you receive information. For example, as a parent myself, I’ve turned off text and email notifications and use the app’s “digest” setting to receive one summary notification each evening instead of messages throughout the day. It’s flexible, convenient, and puts the control in your hands. That said, in the event of an emergency or urgent situation, staff can override your preferences to ensure you're reached by text, email, and phone—as long as your ParentSquare account is registered.

This is also where in the case of your child being absent from school that you will Report an Absence. Note that the Report an Absence form is no longer on our website, it is only available under "Links" for each of our buildings on ParentSquare. Please ensure you're entering the student on the correct building's Report an Absence form.

This means that ParentSquare is absolutely essential for staying informed—especially when it comes to weather-related closures, emergency alerts, and other time-sensitive updates. We hope you find this tool to be a valuable part of your family’s experience with Ross Local School District, helping you stay connected and informed every step of the way. If you have any questions or run into issues, please don’t hesitate to contact your building’s front office. Your connection to Ross just got simpler—and stronger.

August Board Meeting - Presentation on the Future of RIS

At the August 21st Board of Education meeting, the focus will be on the future of the Ross Intermediate School building. District leaders will begin a conversation with the RLSD Board of Education about the future of RIS and engage in long-term planning discussions. This is an important conversation that will help guide decisions in a way that supports students, staff, and the broader community—while also ensuring we remain thoughtful stewards of the community’s resources.

Looking ahead, we are committed to keeping our community involved in this process. Throughout the month of September, there will be several opportunities for families and community members to share their thoughts, ideas, and feedback. Your voice matters, and we want this decision to reflect the priorities of those who call Ross home.

🐏 Have a great year, and go Ross Rams! 🐏
